We have recently designed an invitation for event organisers Tierney & Waters, for the garden party they’re producing for a client at the end of spring. Our brief was to create something simple yet striking, which could be produced economically on a short print run, and which expressed the subtle harmonies of the garden venue.

We chose a standard A5 format as the most cost effective basis for the invitation before designing two contrasting typographic faces. The first bears only the date of the event reversed out of a clean panel of solid colour to create the initial impact. The second face has the details of the event with the entreaty for guests to join the party with subtle overlaid type, to reflect the natural balance of the garden venue.

When the simplicity of the graphic design is combined with the high quality stock, selected for the texture of the finish and it’s ability to carry the solid colour, it really is a striking and cost effective solution.

Colour plays a strong part in all the communications so we wanted to ensure that it was applied in a clean and confident way without being overworked. The typestyle was also designed to be crisp and light to ensure that when more complex or technical information is set, in reports or documents for example, it remains accessible and the brand identity remains consistent.
